FODMAP intolerance - symptoms and how to test

FODMAP intolerance does not involve an immunological response, unlike gluten sensitivity. Instead, it's an intolerance to particular foods that causes the disease. The sensitivity to these foods is caused by a combination of bacteria in the colon that digest carbohydrates and an excess of water in the large intestine, which results in diarrhoea. People with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are disproportionately likely to be sensitive to FODMAPs. Some examples of FODMAPs are: Fructose is a type of simple sugar that is present in a wide variety of plant foods. It is also a key component of white sugar and most other forms of added sugar. The breath test eliminates the need for limiting diet, which can harm the gut microbiome.
