The immune system reacts to peanuts in two ways: directly and indirectly. The immune system develops a peanut allergy when it wrongly labels peanut proteins as invaders. A person with an overactive immune system is more likely to be affected by a peanut allergy. In the United States, peanut allergies affect around one kid out of every fifty. Due to the potentially life-threatening responses that peanut allergies can cause, this test must be performed at an allergist's office or hospital with access to the necessary medications and specialists to manage them.
